Salisbury Steak with Onions and Mushrooms!

If you have been following my blog, you most likely saw my post titled “If you need me, I’ll be in my kitchen”! Well, life happened and I never got around to posting what I did with the ground strip steaks! I tossed around multiple ideas and then finally decided; What better way to use ground steak than for an actual “steak” recipe?! Seriously y’all! These are the absolute BEST salisbury steaks I have ever eaten in my life! Granted, I have not attempted this recipe with ground chuck, I am still 100% confident they would turn out equally as delicious!

Ingredients for the Steaks;

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground strip steak (or ground chuck)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Combine all ingredients. Shape into oval patties about an inch thick (I made 4). In a large skillet over medium heat, brown on each side for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Ingredients for the Sauce;

  • 1 large onion, halved and sliced
  • 3 Tablespoon butter, divided
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1/3 cup red wine
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 Tablespoon minced garlic
  • salt and pepper to taste

In a large skillet over medium high heat, add in the olive oil, 1 Tablespoon of the butter, the mushrooms and the onions, saute until onion is translucent and mushrooms are slightly browned. Add in the balsamic vinegar and red wine. Saute until all liquid is absorbed. Add in the remaining ingredients (except the 2 Tablespoons butter) and return to a simmer. Once sauce has reduced slightly, add in the butter and stir until incorporated. Add in the steaks (turning to coat). Continue to simmer for about 15 minutes or until the steaks reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees. Remove from heat and allow the steaks to rest, uncovered (in the sauce) for at least 10 minutes. Plate, garnish with fresh chopped parsley and serve! As always, I hope you enjoy! Thanks for following!
